Using A Bible Journaling Page as a Card

Part of the process for me as I Bible journal is prayer. Oftentimes I have specific people in mind as I reflect on scripture and use the Word I am reflecting on as part of my prayers. That was true as I reflected on Psalm 18 and prayed for a friend who was battling cancer. After my prayer and Bible journaling time, I wanted to send a note to my friend to encourage her and let her know I was praying for her. I decided to use my Bible journaling page to create a card.

For my page, I used the spear-like arrow stamp on the Walk By Faith stamp set. I think it's the perfect visual for verse 39 "For you equipped me with strength for the battle." I colored in my sketch with ColorIn Watercolor Twists.
The process is very simple. I scanned my page (you could also take a photo) and imported the file into a word processing document so that I could resize it and print it on my color printer. After that, it was simply layering cardstock on top of a 5x7 card base.

Bible Journaling Worship & Praise

One of the main reason I Bible journal is because it gives me the time to meditate on specific words of scripture. While I am coloring or painting or stamping, I am repeating scripture in my mind and contemplating the meaning of these precious words. The creative process draws me in and allows me to linger longer in the Word. My page today gave me the chance to target specific words and think about the many reasons to worship and praise our amazing God.
Psalm 29 is a psalm of worship and praise. It wasn't difficult to find many of the words used in this psalm in stamp form on SRM's two "wordfetti-style" faith stamp sets - Daily Devotion and Scripture Notes. These two sets contain multiple words that can be used in a variety of ways.
After lettering "worship" and coloring it in with marker and watercolor twists, I added several word stamps to emphasize some of the words in the Psalm. I also added a star stamp from another set, Child of God. I created the background using the watercolor twists and a water brush. Then, I added a few highlights with my white pen. I really like how this page turned out and am grateful for the time to worship and praise God through Bible journaling. Be blessed!

Bible Background Stamps

Today I'm sharing several ways I utilized SRM's Bible Background stamp set this week. My favorite technique is using the "amen" Bible background to dress up plain white letters.
After cutting the letters in my die cut machine (or use stickers), I randomly stamped on top of them before removing them from the cutting mat. I also added a bit of marker wash to give them colors that coordinated with my faith planner layout for the week.
To watch me complete this technique and for a few more ideas using Bible background stamps, watch my process video below!

Fear Not Bible Journaling Page

Isaiah 40:10 reminds us that our God is with us and helping us. We find renewed strength and courage when we listen to His Word. On this page in my Bible journal, I used a baby wipe to spread soft (acrylic paint) colors across the page. This is a quick and easy way to add lovely color to your background. Watch my process video for instructions on how to create this look.
After my background dried, I boldly lettered "fear not" with black pen (my LePlume II dual-tipped marker worked great here) and added additional stamped details.
You can see in the background that I also added a few pen marks - black dots and a light pink crosses.

Mom's Day Card and Gift Bag

Mother's Day is a special day to honor and celebrate those women in our lives who encourage, love, and inspire us. Today, I'm sharing a sweet card and gift bag to help me do just that.

Check out this process video to see how you can quickly put together a similar card and gift bag for that special lady in your life.

Hello Calligraphy Pen!

I was excited to receive a new calligraphy paint pen in my SRM Design Team box last week. The Calligraphy paint marker has a traditional flat head, or chisel point, nib (not like a brush marker). It's great for projects on thick paper, glass, wood, or porcelain.
Since I've been doing more brush lettering lately, it took a little bit of practice to remember how to appropriately hold and write with this type of pen, but the practicing was fun.
For this project, I created several watercolor backgrounds and then lettered on top of the pages once they were completely dry.
Here are more of my thoughts in this process video.

A little bit of highlighting with a white gel pen adds a little pop against the black lettering and colorful backgrounds.
What will you create with these markers?

Whimsical Watercolor Birthday Card

For this whimsical card, I used my Marvy Uchida LePlume II markers as watercolors. To do this, lay down color from your marker onto a non-porous surface (plastic sheet or your acrylic stamp block). Then simply use your watercolor brush to lift up the color.
I used a small sheet of watercolor paper which I first spritzed with a bit of water and  used the pink marker to create the rough shape for a cupcake stand. I added a table with some blue to anchor the stand and then added lots of splatters of color, still using the markers and waterbrush.
Once it was completely dry, I went back in with my black LePen to sketch out the whimsical-style stand. A yummy cupcake sticker was placed on the stand (I trimmed the bottom dots from the circle).

I added the Happy Birthday sentiment and the stitches along the side to complete this fun and pretty card. Can't wait to send it out to someone special!

Bible Journaling - Watercolor Twists Background

My page today is in my summer study journal. In Nehemiah chapter 9, God's people gathered to hear God's Word read to them and they confessed their sins and renewed their commitment to keep convenant with God. Despite the number of times they turned their backs on God (Nehemiah describes those times in sad detail) God continued to keep His promise and time and again granted them mercy and grace. As I was reading it struck me how they were saved purely by grace - not their own obedience. On this page I wanted to journal a prayer of thanks to God for his amazing grace and his wild love for me! No matter my own failings in obedience, He continually calls me back, forgives me, and helps me through His Holy Spirit to be a better me.

I created this fun and colorful background using the ColorIn Watercolor Twists. Have I mentioned how much I love these twistable watercolor pencils? So many ways to use them and such great color. The background is super quick and easy. I created a video for you to show you exactly how to create your own for your next bible journaling page or cards. Gather up: Watercolor Twists, a small plastic sheet (the backing to your SRM Faith stamps is great!), water, and a brush.

After my background was dry, I added a few rows of washi tape on the left side and a couple of printouts that came with my bible study. Then I turned to my SRM stamps. I used several stamp sets on this page (listed below). Yes, I did cut the BIG "thank you" so that it would fit on my page. So many great choices to create just the right sentiment on your bible journaling page - it's fun to mix and match from the different sets.

Simple Brush Lettering and Lunch Box Notes

I love stashing little notes into my daughter's lunch bag. Sometimes it's just a quick little message scribbled on a scrap of paper, but I also like to pre-make cute notes to tuck in for her to discover and let her know I'm thinking about her and think she's amazing.

My SRM Faith and Planner stamps are giving me great inspiration for these notes. I used several stamps, brush markers (LePlumeII) and my ColorIn watercolor pencils to create a set for next week.

I've gotten lots of comments complementing my lettering on my Bible journaling pages. I'm no expert and I have to admit to having trouble achieving the look I want with just a brush marker. However - the dual tipped markers give me a great "cheater strategy" in getting the brush lettering look I like. Take a look at my simple brush lettering technique using Marvy Uchida LePlume II dual tipped markers in this video.

Now you can make your own little notes - for lunchboxes, the bathroom mirror, to send in the mail, or leave one for a coworker to find. Enjoy!

Walk in the Light

Today I'm sharing a page in my journaling Bible. In Ephesians 5:8 we are urged to, "walk as children of light." One of the many reasons I love SRM and am so excited to be a part of their Design Team is that, by offering a variety of faith-themed stickers and stamps, they are not only walking in the light, but shining that light and providing products for others to do the same.

I wanted to set up a contrast between dark and light on this page ("...for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord." verse 8). To create the background, I used my ColorIn Watercolor Twists to color areas with black, purple, and blue. Then I took my waterbrush and began to blend them. I love this effect and it's easy to control the amount of water on these thin bible pages so it doesn't become completely saturated.

When the page was completely dry, I stamped the sentiment and stars in (waterproof) black ink. The new SRM Faith stamp set "The Lord is my Light" worked perfectly here. This set makes it really easy to create a variety of perfect phrases and sentiments. I couldn't resist the super-cute star banner stamp found on the new "Birthday Plans" set either. To create the glow, I again used the Twistable and waterbrush to add the yellow.
